As part of the marketing push for the popular HBO series, which returns next Sunday for its highly-anticipated sixth season, the cable network is coming to the Lower East Side for an exclusive art exhibit.
“Art the Throne,” as it’s called, launched as an online feature last week, and brings the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros to real life. Five artists were chosen to reinterpret notable scenes/characters by creating “an immersive art experience influenced by memorable moments from the iconic series.” Tristan Eaton, CYRCLE, Marcos Chin, Jeff Nishinaka, and the Pop Chart Lab all contributed, the latter having recreated the infamous “Red Wedding massacre.” HBO is hosting all five video diaries of the participants, where fans can explore both the campaign and learn more about the participating artists.

HBO enlisted five artists across a diverse sampling of artistic mediums and backgrounds to bring Art The Throne to life. Infographic experts Pop Chart Lab organize the notorious Red Wedding massacre into an illuminated manuscript made up of illustrated graphs and symbols. As an ode to the rise and fall of power throughout the series, art collective CYRCLE bring a massive mirrored wooden crown. Two separate artists re-envision beloved Game of Thrones’ characters through conceptual portraits, including artist and street art muralist Tristan Eaton’s large-scale painting of Daenerys Targaryen and illustrator Marcos Chin’s projected and animated Brienne of Tarth. Premier paper sculptor Jeff Nishinaka’s life-size White Walker will provide a formidable reminder of one of Game of Thrones’ most haunting scenes.
